Keep the battery fully charged on an electric forklift model and if it runs on liquid propane gas, ensure the tank stays full to maintain efficiency. Ensure all greased fittings are regularly maintained, this includes all of the moving joints of the forklift. Check the motor oil, transmission and hydraulic fluid often. How regularly you check depends on how often the machine is used. If the forklift is used daily, check daily. Weekly or monthly fluid checks will suffice for occasional forklift use.
Always pay close attention to the warning lights and gauges on the forklift. Any indication of a problem within some system should be immediately investigated as ignoring the warning could result in more costly repairs. Regularly inspect the controls. There may be a requirement for hydraulic fluid or there could be a leak in one of the lines if the controls feel slack or loose. Check the tires daily. If the tires are solid rubber, check for any cuts or gashes in the tire, this could result in an unstable ride and possible damage to whatever items are being transported. Some tires require air and ensuring the air pressure is correct will keep the machine running smoothly.
